Teaching

I am an educator who was born and raised in the unique cultural blend of the Mexico and U.S. border. I have dedicated my teaching career to serving students from similar backgrounds and experiences. As a professor in the discipline of English, my primary focus is to encourage my students to find their voice and explore various forms of composition. In my classroom, we celebrate multiple Englishes and I strive to motivate students to find their own unique way of composing.

Understanding the challenges and opportunities that arise from being a college student, I strive to create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment where everyone feels comfortable expressing themselves. I believe that language is a powerful tool for self-expression and cultural connection, and my goal is to help my students develop their language skills in order to communicate effectively and confidently.

In my teaching practice, I incorporate mindfulness practices to create a holistic and nurturing learning environment. I believe that mindfulness can benefit students by fostering self-awareness, reducing stress, and promoting focus and concentration. By integrating mindfulness activities into the classroom, I aim to help my students develop a sense of calm and presence, allowing them to fully engage in their learning and explore their creative potential.

I am a firm believer in the importance of student-centered learning, and I strive to create opportunities for my students to actively participate in their own learning process. I encourage them to explore different types of composition, such as essays, narratives, and multimedia projects, to develop their writing and communication skills. I provide guidance and support as they navigate the complexities of language and develop their unique voices.

As an educator, I recognize the value of cultural diversity and the richness it brings to the learning experience. I celebrate the diverse backgrounds and languages of my students, incorporating multicultural perspectives into the curriculum and creating opportunities for them to share their own stories and experiences.

Through my teaching, I aspire to motivate my students to become confident communicators, critical thinkers, and lifelong learners. I am committed to helping them develop the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed academically and beyond.
